We started our journey to San Francisco at 5am to catch our plane at the Eastern Iowa Airport. I booked my airfare with a Darcy, my friend and fellow classmate on this trip. We were dropped off and boarded our plane within the hour. Darcy and I found some interesting ways to fall asleep on the plane, a necessity for our entire day of traveling. We flew from Cedar Rapids to Chicago, Chicago to Phoenix, and Phoenix to San Francisco. Once we arrived, we hopped on the BART train system for the first time.
We made it to our stop and were immediately bombarded with all kinds of people and spectacles of the city, but our number one priority was to check in to our hostel and shower off that lingering airport smell. We shared a room with two other classmates, with the others not too far away in their room. While the bunk beds were not ideal, it was an adventure to forget about privacy and a great way to get to know our friends, sleepover style.
After cleaning up, we walked a few blocks down the street to an amazing Thai restaurant called Tycoon. I enjoyed the standard meal of Pad Thai and Thai Iced Tea. It was one of the best versions of this dish that I'd ever had.
There was a beautiful mural drawing on the wall of the restaurant that represented some different parts of San Francisco.
After splitting up the checks, we walked back to the hostel with full bellies and tired bodies. It was an exhausting day of traveling, but arriving in the city was so inspiring and we were ready to explore it in the morning.
